Standing at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and gazing at the African continent is a life-changing achievement. The Rongai route trek begins on Kilimanjaro's northern slopes and offers views over the grasslands of Kenya's plains.
The attempt for the summit (5895m) is challenging and involves sub-zero temperatures. However any reasonably fit person can attempt Africa's highest peak.
DAY 1, Moshi
From Nairobi travel by shuttle bus to Moshi in Tanzania, via Arusha. On arrival at your hotel our representative will give you a briefing on what to expect over the next few days of trekking the highest mountain in Africa.
DAYS 2 - 7, Mt Kilimanjaro Trek
The Rongai route retains a sense of untouched wilderness and offers some marvellous views over the Amboseli Plains with a genuine possibility of viewing some wildlife. It is a fairly easy route with relatively gentle gradients but camping is in portable tents at bush camps with no facilities.
On any of the routes, the last slog to the summit is demanding and you begin the final ascent just after midnight in subzero temperatures to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise.
At the top, exhaustion fades as the sun rises over the 'Roof of Africa' and opens up to unbelievable views of the plains below, and you will feel a great sense of achievement. You'll feel on top of the world!
DAY 7, Descent, Moshi
After descending the mountain we reach the park gate, where successful climbers will collect their climbing certificate. We then return to the hotel in Moshi for a well earned rest.
DAY 8, Nairobi
