McLaren Vale is a region entrenched with history, fine wine and fine food. The region consistently produces fine wines and is located within the Fleurieu Zone. This runs along the Gulf of St Vincent starting just below Adelaide and ends just below Aldinga Beach. Today is all about exploring the Peninsula and the fine food and wine that are in abundance in the area.
We travel south, through the scenic hills and into the beautiful town of Clarendon. We make our first stop at Coriole winery. This is a beautiful little ironstone cellar surrounded by magnificent views and gardens. They produce an outstanding range of wines, olives, olive oils and cheeses, all for you to taste.
It is time to taste some quality produce and for this we head to one of the local olive shops. You can taste locally grown Kalamata olives and acclaimed cold pressed extra virgin olive oils.
Lunch today will be at Market 190. Popular with locals (which is the best sign!), Market 190 is a café of modern, fresh and regionally inspired food with diversity to suit all appetites. The produce that is available is sourced from the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island area, with a range including olive oils, tapenades, dukkah, kasundi, sauces, jams, honeys, cheese, small-goods and more.
As the afternoon is soon upon us we head out to taste the locally produced almonds at the Almond Train and finish with a visit to Medlows Fine Gels and Chocolates.
One more wine tasting will be held for you at the world famous d’Arenberg cellar door. This is one of the most significant wineries in McLaren, and has been in the same family for four generations. Fourth generation Chester d’Arenberg took over as Chief winemaker in 1984 and out of interest many of the vines planted back in 1912 are still bearing fruit today.
Sustained with quality food and produce and palates still tingling from the quality wines tasted, we make our way back to your accommodation
